The day began misty but warm. Gradually the sun burnt off the mist and the skies were blue for the first time in days. We walked on earth tracks climbing up to the wind turbines on the sky line. Birds were singing along the camino seemingly unafraid of the streams of pilgrims passing by. My knowlege of birds is limited and Jen´s is non existent but there were meadow pipits, skylarks and possibly chiff chaffs. The air was perfumed by the hawthorn blossom and the yellow gorse. The views were spectacular and Jen was able to take great pictures. At the top of Alto del Perdon was a magnificent scuplure. A very enterprising man had driven up in a van and was selling coffee and food.

Both Jen and I are having problems with our ankles and feet and were relieved to get to the refuge in Puente La Reina. Bernt was still walking with us and we were joined for a while by Gerda and Anna. All nationalities are on the camino and the refuge of 72 beds filled up quickly. It´s difficult to try to create a small private space but sarongs come in useful to section off your bed in the dormitories. It was only 4 Euros though so you can hardly complain. We stopped for lunch on the way and had the Spanish equivalent of bacon, egg and chips, delicious. Mo
