in Legrono, the capital of in the Rioja. We found a very clean and
comfortable hostel to dump our stuff. It is nearly always bunk beds
and we make a bee line for a bottom corner to hide away in.
We have been very lucky because now people are arriving who have
walked much further and apparently there are very few beds left in
town. People are saying it is because it is a holy year and folk are
dashing like mad to get to hostels in order to ensure a bed. We seemed
to have escaped the mahem so far, thanks to Mo's planning and Gerda's
travel guide with extra info.
We sadly said goodbye to Bernt this afternoon. He wanted to get
further on because he is meeting a friend in Leon and needs to get a
move on. We had a lovely Spanish lunch with him and he treated us to
the strawberry cake we had been dreaming about en route. Then we took
him to the bus stop. The walk out of Logrono is alongside the motorway
so best to get the bus out.
After a good afternoon siesta, relaxing evening and early night we
plan to get the bus out of town in the morning. We have to vacate the
hostel by 8am. So this is a semi rest day and we really need it! We
are still full of aches and pains but few people, whatever age or
fitness, seem to escape without anything.
