Day 25 Hospital de Orbego - Astorga

Entering Astorga - they know what pilgrims will need!

An astounding days walking

A really astounding days walking. Not too long a day so we could appreciate it too.

We stopped in Astorga - another stunning cathedral! We must be getting a bit blasé about the extent of the monumental edifices we are seeing because it gets a bit more difficult to muster up wondrous hyberbole each time.

We visited the museum situated in the Gaudi building next door to the Cathedral. It was great to see the inside of one of his buildings. A lot better than the contents in fact.

We stayed in the. Albergue de Javier a large private one. A large dormitory again. I've mislaid my head torch - a mini disaster. No trading in bed.

Had dinner in the Gaudi Hotel - a meal deal for €11.50 with a pilgrim ticket.

Astorga is a chocolate city - bought some very dark stuff with goji berries - emergency food!

  1. Ahhh I loved that back country route from Hospital de Orbigo as well..... one of my favourite days of walking in Spain. And the scarecrow pilgrim was there when I walked as well..... He has certainly greeted a lot pf pilgrims!

  2. I stayed in the same albergue in 2005. I fell in love with Astorga and have been back a few times, when I was a hospitalero at Rabanal.
